Bethanie vs Caro
USA started with serve, Bethanie rocking new look! Gone aqua dark! Started with a break of serve that gave her an early 2-0 lead. Just the perfect way to start your first match of the year breaking the number one player in the world.
Bethanie confirms the break with a winning lob that almost hit baseline. 3-0.
Next game Caro holds for the first time but Bethanie's display of aggressivenes takes her to 5-1. Until this point of the match its all-B.
When everyone thought it was over, Caro surprise us with a break 5-2. There is still hope.
Caro keeps fighting and rolls back 5-5. Denmark evens the match with a huge comeback. Old Caro is back!
This is it, 6-5 for Bethanie. Caro serving. Set or tie break? Tie break it is. Caro gets an early lead 4-1. Then B gets back one mini break. A second one. And the score: 4-3. Minutes later Caroline consolidates, 7-6 first set in 52 minutes.
Overlook: Bethanie started really solid and then slowly fell apart. Meanwhile, Caro raised her game and started playing as we know her.
Second set, fresh start and Caro is on her game. This time its all-Caro. On the other end of the court we see a lost Bethanie that is giving the match away with unforced errors. Quickly 5-0 Denmark.
But USA still see a ray of hope when Bethanie wins her first game of the second set 1-5. Later on the match, Bethanie was able to save 3 match points and consequently brake Caro's serve. 2-5. Thirty seven minutes in the second set, Caro takes the match. 7-6 6-2.
Caroline Wozniacki evens the tie after the victory of Mardy Fish over Danish player Nielsen.
On a side note, its really refreshing seeing Bethanie back on the court after a long period of injury and rehab. Hitting volleys, fierce forehands and smashes over the head. Priceless. Almost as sweet as a win.
Note: Denmark has the ultimate win when they defeat USA in mixed doubles 7-5 6-3
